Jose Soriano worked 4.2 innings with two strikeouts for Toronto, navigating Cleveland’s early advantage without allowing the game to get away. Austin Hedges accounted for both of the Guardians’ RBIs, but Cleveland could not generate another scoring inning after the fifth. Toronto’s bullpen closed the final four innings without allowing a run, including Louis Varland’s two-strikeout ninth, while the Blue Jays added one more run in the top of the ninth to remove the need for a one-run finish.

The result moved Toronto to 70-71 and Cleveland to 70-70, with the Blue Jays gaining ground through superior situational offense rather than a dominant pitching start. Toronto’s ability to turn Bibee’s free passes into a decisive fifth inning was the difference, and the clean late-inning work protected that advantage. Cleveland will need sharper strike-zone control and more sustained offense to prevent similar midgame swings from deciding close contests.
