Phillies Break Open Tight Game Late, Beat Angels 5-2 at Angel Stadium

Philadelphia erased an early deficit with four unanswered runs from the seventh inning forward, backed by home runs from J.T. Realmuto and Edmundo Sosa.

Final: Philadelphia Phillies 5 — 2 Los Angeles Angels

The Philadelphia Phillies turned a narrow pitchers' duel into a 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday at Angel Stadium, scoring four of their five runs in the final three innings. Zack Wheeler and Yusei Kikuchi matched six-strikeout performances, but Philadelphia's lineup found its separation late, pushing across a run in the seventh, two in the eighth and another in the ninth. J.T. Realmuto drove the offense with a two-hit night and a home run, while Edmundo Sosa added a solo shot that helped put the game beyond reach.

Philadelphia's decisive push began in the seventh and continued through the finish. Realmuto's home run supplied one of his two hits and gave him two runs scored, while Sosa's homer added another run in the eighth. Bryce Harper went 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Brandon Marsh delivered a productive RBI at-bat as the Phillies converted their limited opportunities into a five-run total. Los Angeles answered once in the ninth, but that response came too late to alter the result.

The win moves Philadelphia to 77-60 and reinforces a formula built on quality starting pitching, timely power and enough late-inning execution to break close games open. Los Angeles falls to 52-85 despite Kikuchi's strong seven-inning effort, with the offense again unable to support its starter. For the Phillies, the late scoring surge matters more than the early deficit: they controlled the game's final three innings and finished with the margin that had eluded them for most of the night.
