Blue Jays Answer Seattle’s Early Lead With Four-Run Rally at Rogers Centre
Toronto erased a 3-0 deficit across the fifth and sixth innings before its pitching held Seattle scoreless over the final five frames.
Final: Seattle Mariners 3 — 4 Toronto Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays turned a three-run hole into a 4-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners at Rogers Centre, scoring twice in the fifth and twice more in the sixth. Jose Soriano supplied the decisive foundation, working seven innings with six strikeouts while keeping Seattle’s lineup from adding to its early advantage. Toronto’s offense then made the margin stand, and Seattle went scoreless from the fifth inning through the finish.
Seattle built its lead with one run in the second and two more in the fourth, with Cal Raleigh providing the sharpest blow. Raleigh went 2-for-3 with a home run, one RBI and two runs scored, while Taylor Ward added two RBIs in a 1-for-4 performance. The Mariners’ offense created enough pressure to lead 3-0, but it could not convert that early control into a complete road win.
Toronto changed the game against Kade Anderson, who lasted 4.1 innings with three strikeouts, then protected the advantage against the Seattle bullpen. Myles Straw went 2-for-3 and scored twice, while Brett Bateman and George Springer each drove in a run. Carlos Vargas covered 2.1 innings with two strikeouts and a 1.35 ERA, but Toronto’s four-run response was enough to withstand Seattle’s late attempts.
The result moves Toronto to 67-70 and keeps the Blue Jays ahead of Seattle, which falls to 64-72. Toronto’s formula was clear: Soriano stabilized the pitching side, the middle innings supplied the entire comeback, and the defense of a one-run lead held through the ninth. Seattle leaves with evidence that its early offense can create separation, but the next step is sustaining that pressure after the opponent answers.
